PNE "Legends" (4)

Pavel Pergl

The central midfielder signed for Preston in the January transfer window of 2007. The Czech Republican was one of Paul Simpsons many flops as he only lasted six months, making eleven appearances and scoring one goal. But that goal if you remember was a twenty-five yard screamer at Deepdale against Norwich and is what 'Pav' will be most remembered for.

Pergl signed from Czech giants Sparta Prague, where he somehow managed to make eighteen champions league appearances. 'Pav' left PNE the following summer, playing for numerous clubs since and is currently playing in the Swiss Premier League. The now 34 year old goes down as yet another foreign flop who failed to make an impression at Deepdale.

Money Maker Mellor

On Saturday 24th March Neil Mellor made his return from his apparent "long term injury" coming off the bench against Bury on 85 minutes at Deepdale. It has come to the blogs attention that there was a mix of anger and confusion in the executive box, as when Mellor crossed the white line he made himself a cool £40,000.

"striker makes £40k for 5 minutes of play and missing game winning chance"

Trevor Hemmings, on one of his not so regular visits to Deepdale (who can blame him) and Peter Ridsdale were  more than surprised to see the striker make his 150th appearance for the Lillywhites, which meant that Mellor triggered a clause in his contract and make a small fortune on top of his already staggering wage.

The news comes as Ridsdale has been in contract talks with the injury prone forward and it has been suggested by some that Mellors prolonged absence has been due to the appearance clause written into the strikers contract when he signed for the club. Westleys decision to include Mellor is unlikely to go down well in the boardroom and could add to the problems he faces, along with the teams recent terrible performances, results and after the game against Brentford the near total loss of the Deepdale faithful.
